Nighthawks/The Rink Fall Camp For Minor Hockey

2022-04-11

Here is a brief introduction from the GM/Coach of the Nighthawks and details on the MJHL Fall Camp.

Hello everyone,

My name is Kelvin Cech, I’m the General Manager & Head Coach of the Niverville Nighthawks. Still sounds strange and fantastic, if I’m being honest.

I’m thrilled to be here in town to chase down my dreams of coaching and leading a progressive, diligent, and ambitious organization. I’m fortunate to be surrounded by a supportive board of directors and generous shareholders who are excited about the road to come. I’ve been tasked with doing things better than they’ve ever been done before - no pressure! There is a lot to learn on and off the ice - such as how to find my mailbox and how to avoid mud puddles - but the hockey team will come together slowly but surely.

But this isn’t about me, it’s about you and our community. One of my favourite parts on my previous stops in Winkler, the North Shore Winter Club, and the University of British Columbia Men’s Hockey Team was the integration with minor hockey. I still talk to parents of youngsters I coached in hockey schools years ago. The relationships created when no one cares about ice time or wins and losses are unbreakable.

It’s also a full-time job in itself, designing and implementing hockey school, which is a big reason why the Nighthawks have teamed up with Rink Winnipeg to bring hockey school to Niverville this summer. They know what they’re doing, they know the area, and I got lost driving from the rink to my house yesterday. I love their approach to development. The coaches I’ve met in the past few months are professional, organized, and most of all, passionate. Myself and a handful of our new players will also be on the ice at hockey school, so it’s an ideal setup all around.

I’d love if your daughter or son could join us at hockey school, happening August 22nd - 26th. After that things get crazy with our first training camp, our first exhibition games, and then, incredibly, the first Junior A hockey game in Niverville history.

Details: August 22nd - 26th
Group 1 Ages 7-9
Group 2 Ages 10-12
Group 3 Ages 13 -15
